The Splinter Cell Remake has lost its director

While things are shaping up well for EA's Dead Space Remake, the same can't be said for Ubisoft's Splinter Cell Remake. The publisher announced plans to remake the original stealth action game last year, but the development team is still looking to bulk out its writing team, and now, the game's director is leaving Ubisoft.

Ubisoft did not show off any footage of Splinter Cell Remake when it first announced the project, so we are unsure how much work has already been put into the game at this time. However, we have gone almost a full year without updates, and typically when there is a major leadership change on a project, that leads to further delays as a new director may want to change up a few things.

The Remake was originally set to be directed by David Grivel, who previously worked on Ghost Recon, Assassin's Creed, Far Cry and the last major Splinter Cell game – Blacklist. After an 11-year career at Ubisoft, Grivel is now leaving the company for “a new adventure”, he revealed on LinkedIn (via VGC).

This now means that the Splinter Cell Remake will need a new director and the team is also hiring to add to its art and writing staff. With all of this in mind, it could be a while before Ubisoft is ready to give an update on the remake.

This wouldn't be the only Ubisoft remake to be facing some trouble. The company has had to reboot the Prince of Persia remake project, and after several announced delays, the game no longer has a release date.

KitGuru Says: With the information we currently have, I don't expect to see Splinter Cell Remake in 2023. Hopefully, over the next year, the team can quietly make some good progress so we can start looking forward to a release date.
