The Overwatch Summer Games will return next week

While here in the UK it seems like the Summer is coming to an end, the season is still going strong elsewhere in the world. With that in mind, it is almost time for Blizzard to launch its annual Overwatch Summer event, which will be bringing back the Lucioball game mode, new skins and some old skins starting from the 8th of August.

Those of you who were playing Overwatch this time last year will remember that last year’s Summer event was themed after the Olympics. There are no olympics this year but it seems Blizzard will be keeping some of the sports theme by bringing back Lucioball. You will also get the chance to buy any Summer skins you missed out on last year too using in-game gold. New legendary skins will cost around 3000 gold but returning legendaries from 2016 will cost just 1000.

The event will run from the 8th of August until the 29th. You can expect to see new skins for Mercy, Widowmaker, McCree and Junkrat. There may be more but that is all we know for the time being.

Finally, last year’s Rio Stadium map will return for Lucioball but a new map will also be making an appearance, with a new stadium located in Sydney, Australia. You can see the Overwatch team explain it all in the developer update video above.

KitGuru Says: Blizzard has been doing a really good job with its seasonal Overwatch events, though I must admit I was disappointed in the last one. Not because of the content but because it seemed that the chances of getting a legendary skin had been heavily diminished compared to previous events. Still, I'll be looking forward to hopping back in for some Lucioball this year. Are any of you still playing Overwatch? Will you be taking part in this year’s Summer Games?
