The new Forspoken trailer might as well be a Marvel parody

There was a lot of excitement for Forspoken after its initial unveiling. The game looked like it was going to be a great graphical showcase for next-gen hardware, but subsequent showings have been less impressive. The most recent clip of the game shown online is drawing plenty of criticism due to its dialogue.

If you've been watching seasonal anime over the last decade, you'll know that Japan currently has an obsession with Isekai stories, where someone is transported from the real world into a fictional setting and then tasked with figuring out how to thrive in their new surroundings. Forspoken is one of those stories, with the main character being transported from her normal life in New York City to a fantasy realm filled with magic, monsters and more.

The latest trailer for the game attempts to sum that idea up through dialogue that sounds like a Marvel parody. The 30 second trailer also reaffirms Forspoken's new release date, which is the 24th of January 2023. If you are curious about the community reaction to the trailer, just take a look at the replies to the tweet – there are some very funny parodies in there, including one that puts the same dialogue over the Scalebound trailer, a combination that works surprisingly well.

Forspoken was initially due to release this year and Square Enix had begun demoing the game with press outlets. However, the game was clearly in rough shape with a very poor frame rate, indicating that more time was needed to optimise the game. Sure enough, the game was eventually delayed out of 2022 and into early 2023.

KitGuru Says: I was initially excited for Forspoken, but the footage we've seen over the last year has dampened that quite a bit. Still, one bad trailer doesn't necessarily mean the final product will be bad, but the game is definitely looking like more of a ‘wait and see' than a ‘must have' title.
