The Lollipop Chainsaw Remake has been downgraded to a remaster following delay

Back in 2022, one of the more surprising video game remakes was announced. The James Gunn-written action game, Lollipop Chainsaw, is coming back. While initially, this project was planned as a full remake, it was recently delayed and now, the developers have confirmed that they have scaled back the ambition for the game, which will now be a remaster, rather than a remake.

Lollipop Chainsaw RePOP was delayed from Summer 2023 to Summer 2024 a few months ago. Now, it would seem that bigger changes to the project have been made. While initially, this was planned as a remake, meaning fans could expect a more in-depth rework of the original game, now, it will be released as a remaster instead, keeping the original clunky game design intact while polishing up the visuals.

In a statement, the founder of Dragami Games, the company behind Lolipop Chainsaw RePOP, said: “We have changed the game design of RePOP from Remake to Remaster based on your requests!”.

The tweet indicates that fans didn't want a full-blown remake and instead wanted a simpler remaster. However, a quick look at the replies to the tweet show that this was indeed not the case, with many expressing disappointment in this decision and questioning the reasoning behind it. Chances are, this decision had a lot more to do with budget and time constraints than fan requests.

KitGuru Says: Judging by the reaction to the announcement, it would seem that most fans were more concerned with potential censorship, rather than changes to gameplay to bring it up to modern standards. The original game was already pretty clunky and now with this news, we have little hope for improved gameplay alongside modern visuals.
