The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom surpassed 10 million sales in just three days

Given the rave reviews, highly watched streams and the constant barrage of gameplay clips circulating social media, it was clear from the jump that The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom was going to be a highly successful game. Now, Nintendo has confirmed that it is the fastest-selling game in the history of the franchise.

Today, Nintendo announced the first sales figures for The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, confirming that the game sold 10 million copies worldwide during its first three days on the market. Overall, the Zelda series has now sold 130 million units across all of its games, with Tears of the Kingdom being the fastest-selling game in the series history.

At the 10 million mark, Tears of the Kingdom is a third of the way to eclipsing sales of Breath of the Wild, which currently sits at just shy of 30 million units sold worldwide. Assuming there isn't a steep drop-off in the months ahead, Tears of the Kingdom could surpass Pokemon Scarlet/Violet (22 million sales) and Super Mario Odyssey (25 million sales) by the end of the year.

I haven't had a chance to really dig into Tears of the Kingdom yet and am still in the early stages of the game, but it is already gripping me far better than Breath of the Wild. While I did enjoy the original game, the new powers and map variety present in Tears of the Kingdom takes things up to a new level. I've also been incredibly impressed by the creations players are making and sharing online. So far I've seen people create mech fighters, an orbiting laser satellite that can take down bosses and very impressive vehicles.
