The Day Before is shutting down just weeks after launch

The most surprising thing about The Day Before's launch earlier this month was that the game released at all. After months of delays and long periods of silence from the developers, people began to suspect that the game wasn't real, or a poor attempt at a scam. The game was quickly pulled from sale just days after its release and now, its servers will shut down in just a few weeks.

While initially billed as an MMO survival game, The Day Before launched as more of an extraction shooter, with smaller than anticipated 32-player matches. The game swiftly received an overwhelmingly negative reception on Steam, as tens of thousands of disappointed players jumped into the game for the first time. Following this, the studio behind the game, Fntastic, announced that it would be shutting down and the game was pulled from sale.

Since then, another name has entered the fray. It turns out, a company known as Mytona was the primary investor in the game. Following the failed launch, Mytona took over for all communications regarding the game, announcing plans to refund all purchases. Now, Mytona has also revealed that due to a lack of development team, The Day Before can no longer be supported. As a result, its servers will go offline on the 22nd of January and the game will no longer be playable.

As “The Day Before” fades into obscurity, the incident serves as a cautionary tale within the gaming industry, highlighting the importance of managing player expectations and delivering on promises made during the marketing phase.
