Take-Two is closing two studios months after saying it had ‘no plans’ for lay-offs

While Take-Two's CEO had said just a few months ago that the company had no plans for lay-offs, things have swiftly changed. Now that Take-Two has acquired Gearbox Entertainment from Embracer Group, the company has reassessed its situation and unfortunately, it has led to the closure of two studios behind two beloved games.

As reported by Bloomberg, Take-Two is closing down both Intercept Games and Roll7. Intercept had been tasked with developing Kerbal Space Program 2, which is currently still in Steam Early Access. Meanwhile, Roll7 is the team behind OlliOlli, as well as the more recent critical hit, Rollerdrome.

Roll7 had been doing well, with Rollerdrome and OlliOlli both being received well by fans and critics alike. Unfortunately, we will not get to see a new game from this studio if the studio closure goes ahead.

On top of that, Intercept Games was only just formed in 2020, as part of Take-Two's indie-focused Private Division label. With Kerbal Space Program 2 still in development, and with a bunch of people having already paid for the game via Steam Early Access, those who paid the game's £44.99 price tag are now left wondering if the game will ever be finished.

Take-Two has not yet commented publicly on this, so we'll have to wait and see what they say.

KitGuru Says: Did any of you pick up Kerbal Space Program 2 already? Chances are, the project will switch to another studio to be seen through to completion, but one has to wonder how much longer it will take to reach 1.0 with none of the original developers there, especially when you factor in that a whole new team may want to go in a number of different creative directions, which tends to lead to longer development cycles.
