Take-Two Interactive explains GTA V PC delay

Rockstar parent company, Take-Two Interactive, released its quarterly earnings this week and incidentally, that means we get a small peak inside the inner-workings of the publisher. Most companies have to justify or explain business decisions to investors so when the earnings report came around, Take-Two had to acknowledge the reasoning behind Grand Theft Auto V's delay on the PC.

It's not a particularly exciting revelation, the company basically told investors exactly what it would have told anyone else, Rockstar needed more time with the PC specific version. During an investors earnings call, Strauss Zelnick said:

“When we move a title, it's almost always the same answer, which is giving a title a bit more development time to make sure that it can be everything that it ought to be. And while we would prefer never to change a release date, it's proven to be a good move for us in general.”

Strauss then went on to proclaim that Take-Two Interactive has the “highest Metacritic rating in the business, and that correlates with revenue and ultimately, of course, profit.”

Grand Theft Auto V for the PS4, Xbox One and PC was announced earlier this year, while the new console versions will still release in November, PC owners are going to have to wait until the 27th of January, close to a year and a half after the game's original release date on the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3.

Those who owned the game on the Xbox 360 or PS3 and registered a Rockstar social account will receive extra content once they buy and login to a ‘next gen' version of the game on the PC, Xbox One or PS4. If you were waiting for the game to come to the PC and didn't cave in to buying the console version, then you'll be missing out on a few features.

KitGuru Says: So there you have it, Zelnick didn't get in to any specific details regarding GTA V's development for the PC, Xbox One and PS4 but its safe to assume that the console versions were prioritized in order to hit the earlier release date. Are you guys looking forward to GTA V on PC? Have you lost interest due to waiting so long?

  1. I still can’t wait. I’ve played it on the 360 and was disappointed with the way it looked. While it was still a huge feat and does look good, its not how I imagined it would look after all the hype, but I am a PC gamer after all. So with the PC release I hope to replay it with new enthusiasm! (And not cock up the stock market at the end)

You’re talking about the Dukes O’Death and the Dodo plane? I wonder if this is both singleplayer and multiplayer.

Also wondering about: since i have GTA V on Xbox 360, and am moving on to to PC 27. January, will I miss out on some events on the “nextgens”, or will i be able to get all the exclusives on Xbox 360 from 18. Nov – 27. Jan???

  3. The answer is simple: they need money from Consoles first -_-

  4. On the contrary I was quite pleased with the way it looked on the PS3.
The aliasing was the main problem for me, but that’s a problem you’ll have to accept really because the console is considered ancient by now.
    P.S. I play from a 32” tv from a certain distance.
The closer you are playing from your TV/Monitor, the worst the image will look.
Take this advice and use it as your advantage. 🙂
Take a look at this, should provide enough information:

  5. I would rather wait and have a fully working game on release than have them do an Activision/EA and pump out worthless broken shit on release day, simple really.

Can’t wait to play this game myself.

  6. Don’t get me wrong, it looks good. I’m just used to beautiful PC images. I’m playing on a 22″ 1080p monitor.

Thanks for the tool though. Very useful and informative!

  7. Racist

  8. I absolutely agree!! It’s actually refreshing to see a company want to put real effort into developing the PC version to be the best it can be rather than what seems to be happening everywhere else with crappy console ports, deliberately reduced graphic quality (so the PC version doesn’t upstage the Next Gen consoles) and the soon to be 30 FPS caps. If it means waiting a bit longer for PC games that will fully utilise the higher specs and control mechanics of the PC I don’t mind waiting!

  9. most likely wont pre order it the game is so old now lol

  10. Kinda lost interest. I mean, the hype is gone. Its like playing FarCry3 now. Its old news and you feel bad about it.

  11. Finally, someone understands.

  12. Hypothetically, if the game releases and runs like GTA 4 did on PC, what would you say?

  13. I get you.
    No problem man. 🙂

  14. Well, hopefully it’ll work properly this time. I played it on the PS3, and the game froze and bugged out on Trevor’s first mission. I tried about 40 different solutions for fixing it, including deleting my save data and starting over, and nada. Game still bugged. Hopefully the PC version will be sans bugs.. or I’m going to be mildly upset.

  15. I don’t think that PC followers should miss out, I think we should get more features than the old console owners for waiting over a year for a port forward to come out!

  16. People are all to eager to forget the pile of broken shit that was GTA 4 on the PC. I’m hoping, but not presuming, that GTA 5 will run with decent frames on PC.

  17. Yes they are, and they don’t seem to think at ALL that a game having a full year and 2 months to prepare for PC as well as current-gen consoles (which are 1 – FAR weaker than modern PCs and 2 – similar architecture to current PCs) should be more than enough. They seem to believe that the game needing a further 2-3 months to “polish” things is plausible and should be applauded.

Except that GTA 4 had a full year to wait and still released broken.

  18. BULLXXXXXXXX!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It was coming this month after being delayed already many times! And now it is delayed again!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! F ROCKSTAR! You can keep your game!!!!!!! I no longer want it! And I am canceling my order!

  19. They just keep delaying it as a sales pitch more or less, I can guarantee they already have it for PC and like all other ports from Rockstar it will be as bad as GTA 4 and all of them! But they are not releasing it yet because they know they will sale more if people want it more. But they delayed it too many times for me now! The game is already almost two years old, And it is delayed again! I am calling now to cancel my pre-order! And Rockstar can go to hell!

  20. No too many delays, rockstar for that you ain’t getting my money….
