Surprise – a new Batman: Arkham game is on the way this year

Rocksteady has not had a great year, with Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League falling off faster than almost any high-budget ‘live-service' game. At this point, the game is averaging just hundreds of concurrent players on Steam, despite new seasonal content being added. However, fans will be pleased to know that the Batman: Arkham series isn't entirely dead.

Batman: Arkham Shadow is due to come out in ‘late 2024' and trailer is due to be shown at Summer Game Fest, which kicks off on the 7th of June. Unlike Batman: Arkham VR, a small tech-demo style game developed by Rocksteady, Batman: Arkham Shadow is developed by VR studio, Camouflaj, in collaboration with Oculus Studios. As a result, the game will be exclusive to the Meta Quest 3.

The cinematic trailer seems to indicate that we will indeed be walking and gliding around the streets of Gotham, and the swarm of rats shown in the trailer hints at the presence of Ratcatcher, a lesser-known Batman villain who has appeared in the comics, as well as the TV show ‘Gotham', and Batman Beyond.

During the trailer, we also see Batman drop a smoke grenade, so we'll have access to at least a few of his gadgets, although we are unlikely to have as many as the main Arkham games.

KitGuru Says: It might not be a new Rocksteady game, but at this point, that honestly might be better. If this is a legitimate Batman adventure and not a string of mini-games designed to show off tech, then it could end up being a very compelling VR release.
