Supply chain sources reveal more Switch 2 details

At this point, we all know about the Nintendo Switch 2. Even Nintendo's president has confirmed that the next console will be an ‘evolution' of the Switch. However, for whatever reason, Nintendo has not yet made an official announcement. That announcement will need to come soon, as the Switch 2 has now been in manufacturing for months, leading to a wave of supply-chain leaks.

Supply chain leaks are well known amongst those who follow the latest smartphone news. Each year, we seem to know everything about the next iPhone, Google Pixel or Samsung Galaxy well ahead of official announcement. This is primarily due to the announcements of these devices taking place after manufacturing has begun, allowing for lots of leak opportunities as more employees come into contact with the unannounced devices.

Switch 2 January

We are seeing this very same issue play out now for Nintendo with the Switch 2. Accessory manufacturers already have details about the Switch 2 and its dimensions, which has allowed companies like D-Brand to straight up reveal the Switch 2 before Nintendo. This week, that was followed up by a new photo of the Switch 2 motherboard, showcasing the new Nvidia chip at the centre, paired with some SK Hynix memory.

A recently discovered patent also confirms that Nintendo has plans to support upscaling technologies with the Switch 2. This has long been suspected, as at this point, every major new game supports at least one upscaling method, whether its an open standard like FSR, or a walled-off technology like DLSS. As DLSS has grown to be a hugely popular performance-saving tool on PC, many have been wondering what DLSS would be like on a console and as Nvidia is supplying the chip that powers the Switch 2, we expect that it will indeed support DLSS upscaling.

The patent also shows that Nintendo will use upscaling techniques to reduce game file sizes, allowing larger games to fit on physical game cartridges.

Nintendo is expected to reveal the Switch 2 within the next few months, with a release date scheduled for later this year.
