StarCraft shooter reportedly in development at Blizzard

We all remember the tragedy that was StarCraft: Ghost, Blizzard's cancelled shooter game. However, it would seem that the dream of a StarCraft shooter is still alive and well, as it emerges that Blizzard is working on something new.

Speaking on the IGN Unlocked podcast, Jason Schreier shared a bit about one of the many stories compiled in his new book, Play Nice: The Rise, Fall and Future of Blizzard Entertainment. It is claimed that former Far Cry lead, Dan Hay, has spun up a team to work on a new StarCraft game, and that it will be a shooter.

While Schreier's book isn't intended to reveal any unannounced news, such as the StarCraft shooter being in development, it is likely to generate a few more headlines. This week, a snippet of Schreier's book also revealed the intense behind the scenes relationship between Mike Morhaime and Bobby Kotick, as Activision began to take a more active role on Blizzard's operations. Ultimately, changes from Activision's end led to Mohaime's resignation as CEO of Blizzard, and since beginning a new game publishing company.

Phil Spencer has previously spoken fondly of StarCraft and has hinted at the idea of a shooter. This could be just one of a number of unannounced projects currently in early development at Blizzard.

KitGuru Says: We don't know much at this stage and it does sound like the game is in early stages, so it could be years before Blizzard is ready to announce or show anything – and that's if it doesn't get cancelled like the previous two attempts.
