Zynga's attempt at a long-running multiplayer Star Wars game is coming to an unceremonious end. Star Wars Hunters, which was originally supposed to release on mobile, PC and Nintendo Switch back in 2021, suffered numerous delays and now after less than a year on the market, the game is shutting down.
In an announcement this week, Zynga confirmed that on April 15th, it will ship the final content update for Star Wars Hunters. This update will include a new ‘Hunter' character to play as and will be free to all players. After that, you'll be able to play the game right up to October 1st, at which point, the online servers will be shut down and the game will no longer be accessible.
As the game is closing down, Zynga will also stop selling microtransactions for the game. Unfortunately, this sudden shutdown also means that the game will no longer be releasing on PC like originally planned.
Star Wars Hunters was supposed to be a free-to-play PvP arena shooter with ambitious plans for cross-platform play for iOS, Android, PC and Switch. After numerous delays, the game finally launched on Nintendo Switch in 2024 but did not achieve any critical or commercial success.

KitGuru Says: You aren't going to find many ‘core' gamers with a soft spot for Zynga. Star Wars Hunters could have been a good game, but you put the words ‘Zynga', ‘Free to Play' and ‘mobile' all next to each other and you'll be hard pressed to find any kind of enthusiastic response.
