Star Citizen’s huge 3.0 Alpha update set to launch in June

Those of you waiting on the next big Star Citizen update to hop back in will be happy to know that the massive 3.0 update now has a release date. This week, Robert Space Industries published a huge ‘schedule report', showing that Star Citizen's 3.0 Alpha update will be arriving on the 29th of June.

Star Citizen 3.0 will make a lot of changes to the game in its current state, with performance improvements, design changes, updates to the ‘persistent universe', planets and more. So far, some parts of the update are further along than others but the aim is to have everything ready to go by the 29th of June.

The whole schedule goes into a lot of detail, with extensive patch notes. However, there are some caveats. The schedule is essentially the same document that is circulated internally amongst the developers, so all dates are considered estimates, if something needs to be held back for a while longer, then the update will be pushed back to another day.

Following the Star Citizen 3.0 update, RSI is planning further changes for update 3.1 and 3.2, which will include new ships, a ship to ship refuelling mechanic, changes to the FPS module and a criminal mechanic. You can find the whole schedule update, HERE.

KitGuru Says: It has been a while since I have checked in with Star Citizen but this looks like a pretty massive update. Are any of you guys still following the game's development? Are any of you playing the game in its current form?

  5. Squadron 42 Chapter 1 (solo) is planned mid-2018 and Satar Citizen (MMO) currently in Alpha is released per modules (Arena Commander, Star Marine, PU) with big patch (SC 3.0 by end of June 2017. Backers are there to test/play not to play a finished game.
So far a great journey since 2013 and we are coming closer for serious contents in 2017/2018.

  6. Its basically a pyramid scheme. Game won’t be finished till they have milked as much money as they can. When the money stops, the game will be suddenly be finished, no matter what state its in.

  7. I’m hoping late 2018 even if it’s not gold but in a good gaming state that lets you more or less play the games as intended, might be optimistic but a lot of the problems at CIG are with changing a lot of the engine to do what’s needed, once they can start focusing more on contents delivery then things should start moving at a decent pace.

Personally, big projects like these always get delayed so it wouldn’t surprise me if 2020 is when it comes out, in the end, Chris Roberts isn’t getting any younger and there is a point where you have to decide that it needs to be released and they can deliver more contents after it’s released.

  8. Pyramid scheme, ponzy scheme, scam, vaporware… the list of non sense comments is amazing πŸ™‚
