Sources reveal details on Horizon Zero Dawn 2

While there has not been an official announcement, a sequel to Horizon Zero Dawn is certainly in the works, although Guerrilla Games' ambition has been growing. According to reports this week, Sony has greenlit a trilogy.

According to sources speaking with Video Games Chronicle, Guerrilla has been working on Horizon Zero Dawn 2 since 2017, soon after the original game released to high praise. It was planned as a PS4 title, but is now said to be only coming to the PlayStation 5.

The report teases that Horizon Zero Dawn 2 will have a larger game world with more exploration, potentially with co-op. Apparently co-op multiplayer is something that Guerrilla has been interested in for a very long time and while a smaller, standalone co-op title was planned at one point, it is not known if that will still be coming as a precursor to Horizon Zero Dawn 2, or if some form of multiplayer will be implemented directly into the sequel instead.

Horizon Zero Dawn 2 won't be the last game in the series either, as a third game is also apparently on the table to form a trilogy. Unfortunately, the report does not indicate how close we are to seeing Horizon Zero Dawn 2 for ourselves, or when it will be properly announced. However, since it has been in the works for three years already, it could end up being one of the big ‘Year One' games for the PS5.

KitGuru Says: I'll be playing Horizon Zero Dawn again this year when it lands on PC and I'm sure by the time I'm done, I'll be contemplating a PS5 for the sequel. I'm not sure including multiplayer is the right approach though, as the first game was wonderful as a single-player experience. We'll have to wait and see though, hopefully a proper announcement isn't too far off.
