Sources dispute former Bayonetta voice actor’s low-pay claim

Recently, Bayonetta's original voice actor, Hellena Taylor, called on fans to boycott the game after claiming to have received a lowball offer to work on the third game. As usual in situations like these, however, we did not get the full story. According to additional sources, Taylor was offered significantly more than what was originally portrayed.

According to sources speaking with both Jason Schreier and VGC, PlatinumGames had offered Taylor a deal worth roughly $15,000 – or around $4,000 per session for up to 5 sessions. In the original video, Taylor claimed to have been offered a $4000 flat rate to do the entire game, but these new reports refute this. Taylor denies that this offer existed, but both Bloomberg and VGC claim to have seen documentation showing the offer.

If true, it is possible that there was a major misunderstanding during negotiations, as Taylor vehemently denies that this offer was made and says claims that she could have earned $15,000 are “an absolute lie and a complete joke”.

PlatinumGames VP, Hideki Kamiya, initially responded to Taylor's videos claiming that the information presented was untrue, before deactivating his account. PlatinumGames has not offered any official public comment on the situation at this time. New Bayonetta voice actor, Jennifer Hale, did tweet out a statement confirming she is under NDA and can't say much about the specifics of her work on Bayonetta 3, but called for fans to be open-minded when approaching the new game.

Bayonetta 3 is scheduled to release for Nintendo Switch on the 28th of October.

KitGuru Says: Perhaps more information on this will come out, but for now, we've got a deadlock. Sources claim a higher offer was made, Taylor denies the offer existed and while there seems to be some evidence supporting Platinum's account, the documentation that some journalists have seen is not public, so we don't know how much proof these documents actually offer.
