It is no secret that there is a lot of money involved in industry events like Gamescom. Last year, the costs for showing a trailer at The Game Awards was revealed. Now, the costs for being part of Geoff Keighley's other big show, Gamescom: Opening Night Live, have been revealed. For a short 30-second air-time slot, game companies are asked to pay as much as €115,000.
The costs for appearing in Keighley's Opening Night Live showcase were published by GamesWirtschaft. For 30 seconds of air-time, game studios are looking at forking out as much as €115,000. However, you'd get more value for money with a 60 second slot, which costs €165,000 instead. To show a two-minute trailer during ONL 2024, companies had to pay as much as €265,000.
According to the same report, costs will be going up considerably in 2025. A 30-second slot is expected to cost as much as €140,000 next year, while a 60-second slot will cost over €200,000. Showcasing a two-minute trailer will cost €335,000, while a full three-minute trailer slot will cost a staggering €465,000. In all, showing a trailer at Gamescom in 2025 may cost 20% more than it did in 2024.
These prices are not confirmed by Geoff Keighley or Gamescom. However, the information is said to come from a sales document.
KitGuru Says: With prices like this, it seems clear that ONL is positioning itself more towards the AAA market to showcase high-budget games, rather than games developed by independent studios.
