Prey gameplay footage shown off at Gamescom

It looks like Bethesda came to Gamescom this year armed with a few surprises, one of them being new gameplay footage for Prey, Arkane Studios' reboot of the franchise. The game was officially announced at E3 this year with a cinematic trailer, though it didn't give much away in terms of gameplay, so this is our first look at the game itself.

The video itself is quite short, lasting just under two minutes. It shows the player walking through what looks like an abandoned space station, until alien creatures pop-up out of nowhere, only to be turned to stone by a gun, and then crumbled by the player's ‘super thermal' power. It shows off the direction that Arkane Studios is going with Prey, keeping some of the familiar sci-fi elements but also mixing things up with new weapons and powers. Right now, we know that Prey has no ties to the original game, so expect a few more differences to pop-up along the way.

Prey is currently scheduled to come out in 2017, though an exact date hasn't been nailed down just yet.

KitGuru Says: After the confusing Prey cinematic trailer, it is nice to see some real gameplay to get a feel for the game. Are any of you guys looking forward to the Prey reboot? Or do you wish they had stuck with the original story and built a sequel?

  3. Some interesting elements here, but I would love to have seen a true sequel. The original Prey (which I still have) was creepy, had an amazing deep story, and characters you cared about. Tommy wasn’t your typical 2 dimensional character and I felt that they did a great job representing his Native American Heritage and translating that to game play. Seems like an opportunity lost.
