Perfect Dark director leaves The Initiative

Last year, Microsoft's grass-roots studio, The Initiative, officially revealed that it is working on a Perfect Dark reboot, with Crystal Dynamics signing on to help develop the game. Unfortunately, the project has gone through one major change – it has lost its creative director.

Dan Neuburger has officially left The Initiative, as confirmed on LinkedIn. Over the last few years, he has been the creative director on Perfect Dark, but has now chosen to leave the project to pursue design or director roles elsewhere. The reason behind his departure is not immediately clear and we do not know if a new creative director has been appointed.

Perfect Dark began pre-production back in 2018 and has since moved into the production phase, with Crystal Dynamics, the studio behind the Tomb Raider reboot trilogy, partnering on development.

Recent rumours have suggested that Microsoft may show Perfect Dark gameplay as part of E3 this year, although the game is not expected to release until late 2023 or 2024.

KitGuru Says: At this point, the creative foundation for Perfect Dark should be in place, so this departure may not have much impact or slow development down. Hopefully we can get an official update on Perfect Dark in the months to come.
