Payday 3 to release next year

It has been quite some time since we last had an update on Payday 3. The game was announced back in 2020, and funding and publishing for the game was secured in 2021. Now, a year later, the game is in full production and heading towards a targeted 2023 release date.

During a recent Reddit AMA, some of the team behind Payday 3 answered a number of fan questions, confirming that the game is currently in full production and aiming for a 2023 release date. There is still one major choice to make for the development team though – whether or not to switch to Unreal Engine 5.

As confirmed a while back, Payday 3 is being developed with Unreal Engine, moving away from the Diesel Engine, which was used for Payday and Payday 2. At this point, early development on Payday 3 will have been taking place with Unreal Engine 4, but with Unreal Engine 5 now available, the team is investigating the possibility of moving over to the newer version.

Currently, we don't have a more specific release date for Payday 3, but it will be coming out next year, assuming there are no delays. With that in mind, we may get our first teaser later this year. The game will be published by Starbreeze and Koch Media as part of a co-publishing and funding agreement.
