Payday 3 studio lets go of CEO following launch troubles

It is no secret that Payday 3 has been struggling. The game launched to poor reception from fans, with many choosing to return to the older Payday 2. Now six months on, Starbreeze is ousting its CEO.

Starbreeze CEO, Tobias Sjögren, took the reigns at the company three years ago, helping in the company's turnaround, with Payday 3 set to be their big ticket back to financial success. Unfortunately, things did not play out this way. With Sjögren now out, Starbreeze board member, Juergen Goeldner will act as interim CEO while the company begins looking for a long-term successor.

As pointed out by gamedeveloper, Goeldner has been in the games industry for 40 years now, and previously worked as the CEO of Focus Home Interactive. He first joined the board of directors at Starbreeze in 2023.

With leadership changes falling into place, we'll have to see if Starbreeze can turn things around for Payday 3.
