Payday 3 patch delays caused by progression-wipe issue

Payday 3 has not had the best start, with the game suffering from a rocky launch with matchmaking issues. Starbreeze has been working on the game's first patch for well over a month now but delays have pushed things back. Now, Starbreeze is taking the time to explain the delays properly. It all seems to come down to a progression-wiping issue.

At this point, Starbreeze has sent the first Payday 3 patch off for testing and certification, so it should become available soon assuming no issues appear. Why did the patch take so long to develop? Well Starbreeze says it encountered critical errors in the update pipeline, which posed a risk of wiping player progress. As a result, the team had to fix its update pipeline and process first to avoid future issues and keep all player progress in place.

Fixing the update pipeline has been the priority as it will enable the developers to push patches out at a faster rate.

As for future Payday 3 content, the studio is wisely holding off on talking about that until it can consistently deliver patches. With that said, the first free content updates for the game are expected before the end of the year.
