Nintendo Direct announcements

Nintendo held a direct conference today, showing off some new games and updates for the Wii U and 3DS. The stream lasted about 30 minutes showing off trailers for all of the new games announced and some game-play.

First up on the agenda were the Wii U announcements, starting off with a trailer for Super Mario 3D World, releasing on the 29th of November this year. The trailer shows off the familiar game-play, before this trailer I hadn't really seen Mario in HD so I've gotta say, he was looking pretty good. Super Mario 3D World will include Mario, Luigi, Princess Peach and Toad as playable characters, taking advantage of their unique abilities as you platform your way through the 3D environments.

Super Smash Bros had a returning character announcement too: Sonic the Hedgehog will come back to the game which is currently set for release sometime in 2014 for both the Wii U and 3DS. Speaking of Mario and Sonic, There will also be a new Mario and Sonic at the Olympic games title focused on winter sports. This title will be a Wii U exclusive and will contain the following events: Ski Cross, Snowboard Cross, Short Track Speed Skating and lastly, the Winter Sports Champion Race, combining Skiing, Ice Skating, Bobsleigh and Snowboard into a single event.

Other games include Pikmin 3 which is getting a free update today with a mission mode DLC. Along with that there will also be more mission DLC's available to buy. Wii Party U will be getting a ‘ House Party Mode'  which focuses on using the gamepads in conjunction with the original Wii remotes to play various two player mini games. A video showing off the ‘Water Runner' mini game, with players scooping water from a stream displayed on the GamePad and and then carrying the water to a pitcher displayed on the TV was used to show how both controllers would work together.

On the 3DS side of the conference, a new Kirby game was announced for 2014 and then the following trailer was shown:

Europe will finally be receiving ‘Scribblenauts Unlimited' on the 6th of December. A new feature for ‘The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds' was announced, allowing players to buy or rent items from an in-game shop ran by the character ‘Ravio' instead of having to open up the E-shop. Zelda fans also got a QR code that you can scan for a shirt that you can wear in ‘Animal Crossing: New Leaf”.

In Europe we will be getting ‘Bravely Default: For the Sequel' on the 6th of December featuring a new UI and content not found in the original Japanese release although this wasn't expanded on. North America will get the game in Q1 of 2014.

We got one last announcement for the 3DS today- Kid Icarus: Uprising, Super Mario 3D and Mario Kart 7 will be getting additional DLC later this year.
