Nintendo delays The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild sequel to 2023

While Nintendo was initially planning to launch the sequel to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild in late 2022, the developers need more time. As of today, Breath of the Wild 2 has been delayed to Spring 2023.

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild began development as a Wii U title and went through a couple of delays before eventually releasing as a Switch launch title in March 2017. Now with the sequel delayed, Breath of the Wild 2 will release five years after the original and may be one of the last major exclusives left in the Switch life-cycle.

The Legend of Zelda series producer, Eiji Aonuma, explained in the announcement that the delay will allow the developers “to make this game's experience something special”, and the entire team will be working diligently to ensure this.

While many of us refer to this game as Breath of the Wild 2, that is not the official title. Officially, Nintendo refers to this game as “the sequel to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild”, claiming that the actual title would be a spoiler. We should get a new trailer, a new 2023 release date and the official title announcement later this year.
