Mortal Kombat 11 is launching in April, gameplay and story footage released

At The Video Game Awards this year, Ed Boon took to the stage to drop a surprise Mortal Kombat 11 announcement. Now just over a month later, we have had a full unveiling, with the game's release date, gameplay changes and new mechanics all being shown off.

As you would expect, Mortal Kombat 11 comes with new fatalities, which appear to be the most gruesome yet. That is just one part of Mortal Kombat though. So far, announced characters include Sonya Blade, Baraka, Sub-Zero, Raiden, Scorpion, Skarlet and a brand new character called Geras. Mortal Kombat 11 will also be taking some inspiration from Injustice 2 by allowing players to gain new gear to customise their characters with, so you'll have new outfits, weapons, costume pieces etc.

The game now comes with two power meters, one for an offensive ‘fatal blow' and another for a ‘perfect block' that will end an enemy attack instantly and launch you straight into your own combo. The story prologue also picks up right after Mortal Kombat 9, so we'll be getting a good mix of new and old characters in this latest entry to the series.

If you are a big Mortal Kombat fan, then you'll be pleased to know that the new game isn't far off. There will be a multiplayer beta taking place on the 28th of March and a full worldwide launch on the 21st of April.

KitGuru Says: Aside from Dragonball FighterZ, Injustice 2 and Mortal Kombat X have been my favourite fighting games of the generation. So far, Mortal Kombat 11 is looking like another solid entry. Are any of you planning to pick this one up when it comes out?
