Microsoft undergoes more job cuts across Xbox division but no studio closures

The Xbox team is facing another round of layoffs. This time around, Microsoft Gaming CEO, Phil Spencer, has informed employees of a 3% reduction in workforce across all studios. While it is a small percentage, this does still mean that 650 people will be losing their jobs, bringing the total number of Microsoft Gaming employees let go this year up to over 2,500.

The cost-cutting began just a couple of months after Microsoft finalised its acquisition of Activision Blizzard, and unfortunately with each quarter, there have been additional layoffs spread throughout the year.

Initially reported by Variety, Microsoft Gaming CEO, Phil Spencer, let everyone at the company know about this in a memo sent at 3AM in Microsoft's home state of Seattle. This time around though, it is primarily going to be those employed on the corporate side affected. As a result, there will be no studio closures or game cancellations as part of this new round of layoffs.

Hopefully Microsoft will finally start delivering financial value to ease things up over the next few months, as several major games are lined up, including Starfield's first expansion, Obsidian's new fantasy RPG, Avowed, and Machine Games' Indiana Jones title.
