Microsoft rolls out Ryzen optimisation update for Windows 11

AMD revealed last week that Ryzen CPU owners could expect a performance upgrade in games after updating to Windows 11 24H2, an update that is still currently in testing amongst Windows Insiders. At the time, AMD said it was working with Microsoft to get the new code optimisations into Windows sooner and now, that update has arrived.

You no longer need Windows 11 24H2 to maximise Ryzen CPU performance. Microsoft has brought the AMD-specific optimisations to Windows 11 23H2, the version of Windows 11 that most people are currently using. This is an optional Windows update, so if you have a Ryzen CPU, you'll want to dig into the settings menu to get it installed.

To get the update, you'll need to head to Settings – Windows Update – Advanced Options – Optional Updates. In that menu, you will find Update KB5041587. If you're reading this article, then that is the one to download!

Leo put the newly released Ryzen 9000 CPUs through extra benchmarks recently on Windows 24H2, with the new optimisations in place. You can see all of those results, HERE.
