Microsoft reveals 36 titles heading to Game Pass Core at launch

Back in July, Microsoft announced Xbox Game Pass Core, a new entry-level option for Game Pass including a smaller library of games to replace the Xbox Live Gold service. Now just ahead of launch, Microsoft has finally detailed the full list of Game Pass Core titles.

While the standard and Ultimate versions of Game Pass get new games every two weeks, Game Pass Core will have a slower update schedule, with Microsoft planning to update the library two to three times a year with newer titles. Game Pass Core will carry the same price tag as Xbox Live Gold.

There will be a total of 36 games included in Game Pass Core at launch, featuring a mix of third-party and first-party titles from Xbox Game Studios and Bethesda. The full list of games can be found below:

  • Among Us
  • Astroneer
  • Celeste
  • Dead Cells
  • Descenders
  • Dishonored 2
  • DOOM Eternal Standard Edition
  • Fable Anniversary
  • Fallout 4
  • Fallout 76
  • Firewatch
  • Forza Horizon 4 Standard Edition
  • Gang Beasts
  • Gears 5 Game of the Year Edition
  • Golf with your Friends
  • Grounded
  • Halo 5: Guardians
  • Halo Wars 2
  • Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice
  • Human Fall Flat
  • INSIDE
  • LIMBO
  • Ori & the Will of the Wisps
  • Overcooked! 2
  • Payday 2: Crimewave Edition
  • Powerwash Simulator
  • Psychonauts 2
  • Slay the Spire
  • Spiritfarer: Farewell Edition
  • Stardew Valley
  • State of Decay 2: Juggernaut Edition
  • Superliminal
  • The Elder Scrolls Online
  • Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge
  • Unpacking
  • Vampire Survivors

Game Pass Core is a console-only subscription, so it does not include any PC games or PC versions of games. Personally, I think it might be priced a bit too close to standard Game Pass. In the US, Game Pass Core is $9.99 per month, but a Game Pass for Console subscription is just $1 more per month and offers many more games. The catch is that the standard Game Pass subscription doesn't offer access to online multiplayer, while Game Pass Core does. The new structure indicates that Microsoft is looking to move more Game Pass subscribers up to the Ultimate tier in order to access all benefits under one subscription.

Xbox Game Pass Core will become available starting on the 14th of September. You can save significantly by purchasing a 12-month subscription for $59.99, rather than paying the monthly $9.99 fee. If you are already an Xbox Live Gold subscriber, you will be automatically moved over to a Game Pass Core membership at launch. The Games with Gold program ended on September 1st.

If you unsubscribe, you will get to keep access to all Xbox 360 titles claimed via the Games with Gold program.

KitGuru Says: There are more than a few gems in here, including indie hits like Unpacking, Vampire Survivors, Slay the Spire, Among Us and Stardew Valley. However, time will tell if Game Pass Core will catch on with the way Game Pass prices are currently structured.
