Microsoft reportedly working to renew licenses to keep Quantum Break on Game Pass

Recently, we learned that Xbox-exclusive, Quantum Break, is due to leave Xbox Game Pass this month. At the time, it was theorised that this was due to licensing issues, or perhaps Remedy buying back the IP from Microsoft as it did with Alan Wake back in 2019. Now, Microsoft has confirmed that it is indeed facing expiring licenses.

Speaking with German Xbox fansite XboxDynasty, a Microsoft spokesperson confirmed that Quantum Break is leaving Game Pass due to “current licensing issues”. They didn't elaborate beyond that, so we don't know if the licenses are related to on-screen actors and their digital depictions, or music in the game.

On the plus side though, Microsoft is said to be in talks to renew licenses to bring Quantum Break back to Game Pass. We don't know how long that process will take and we still don't know exactly when Quantum Break is being removed.

It is likely that Quantum Break will be unavailable for a few months before coming back. If Microsoft can't come to an agreement on the expiring licenses, then Quantum Break won't be able to return.

KitGuru Says: Due to Quantum Break being back in the news cycle, I imagine there are a few people looking to give the game a shot now after missing out on it back at launch. You can still grab Quantum Break on Game Pass for the time being. It isn't a particularly long game – it can be beaten in less than 10 hours, making it good for a weekend playthrough.
