Metroid Prime 4 gameplay trailer confirms 2025 release

Nintendo did not disappoint us with today's Direct stream. A new trailer for Metroid Prime 4: Beyond has released, showcasing more of the planet we'll be exploring and the aliens we'll have to take down in Samus's latest mission.

Metroid Prime 4 was first announced all the way back in 2017, but things went extremely quiet after that. It was only last year that Nintendo finally gave us a new trailer for the game, but with the title set to release later this year, we're finally starting to see more of Samus in action.

The trailer gives us a good look at Planet Viewros and the alien creatures we'll encounter there. The gameplay also teases new psychic abilities for Samus, allowing her to solve puzzles to unlock doors and control her laser beams to hit multiple targets.

Unfortunately, the trailer simply reiterates a 2025 release window, strengthening rumours that Metroid Prime 4 will now be a cross-generation title, releasing for both Nintendo Switch and the Switch 2, which is due out later this year.

KitGuru Says: All the footage we've seen so far looks a little too good for an original Switch game, which certainly has me wondering about the possibility of this being a Switch 2 launch title. It wouldn't be the first time Nintendo used this strategy, as The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild was originally supposed to release in 2015 for the Wii U, before being delayed and then released as a cross-generation launch-day game for the Nintendo Switch in 2017.
