Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 continues streak of PlayStation hits

We're a few days away from the launch of Insomniac's next big PlayStation exclusive, Marvel's Spider-Man 2. The sequel to the 2018 game is set for a big launch, as the game has garnered rave reviews from critics. 

Reviews went live for Spider-Man 2 today. Based on over 100 reviews so far, the game has earned a Must Play rating on Metacritic, with a 91 overall score, ranking it amongst the highest-scoring games of the year. This is also a notable bump from the original game's overall score, which settled at 88.

Over on OpenCritic, we see a similar story, with the game earning an average score of 91, based on more than 80 reviews.

Ahead of the game's launch later this week, and coinciding with the lifting of the review embargo, Sony has released the launch trailer for the game, although it does appear to contain quite a few spoilers, so if you are hoping to jump blind, then perhaps give this trailer a skip.

Marvel's Spider-Man 2 releases exclusively for PS5 on the 20th of October. We will potentially see a PC release in late 2025, as Sony appears to have settled on a two-year cadence for bringing new-gen games to PC. So far, PS5 titles like Returnal and Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart have made their way over to Steam and Horizon: Forbidden West will be launching on the platform in early 2024.
