Kerbal Space Program 2 devs confirm layoffs, while Take-Two remains silent

While Take-Two is still being coy about the status of Intercept Games, reliable sources have stated that the studio is closing down, there is even an official closure notice that has been filed with the state of Washington. While Take-Two doesn't want to confirm the lay-offs right now, the people working there have no issues talking about it, confirming that the lay-offs are due to hit in June.

According to a senior team manager at Intercept Games, the studio behind Early Access title, Kerbal Space Program 2, the team at Intercept Games will no longer have jobs as of the 28th of June. The confirmation came as part of a LinkedIn post, as the folks working at the company begin to seek out their next gig.

Take-Two has so far not publicly acknowledged its plans to close down two studios, just months after saying it had ‘no plans' for layoffs. That quickly changed a month or so ago, when Take-Two spent a chunk of money acquiring Gearbox Entertainment and other studios from Embracer Group.

What is frustrating about this situation for gamers, is the fact that Kerbal Space Program 2 is still on sale on Steam via the Early Access program, and given this news, the game may never actually be finished. Take-Two as the publisher needs to let customers know the status of the game and its future. Not only that, but everyone who bought it should probably be refunded if the game is never actually going to be seen through to completion.

KitGuru Says: Take-Two's refusal to acknowledge these impending layoffs is very odd. At this point, I wouldn't be surprised if leadership didn't actually know Intercept Games was working on an Early Access game, one that has already been sold to customers with the promise of seeing the game through to release. The publisher may be trying to figure out what to do about this before making a public announcement.
