Job listings and employee posts point to Horizon MMO

In 2022, multiple sources began reporting that Sony was working on a partnership with MMO publisher NCSoft for future online projects, including a new MMO based in the Horizon universe. Sony confirmed its partnership with NCSoft in late 2023 and now, new job listings do seem to confirm that a Horizon MMO is in the works.

No game projects have been officially announced as part of this partnership yet. However, Sony has been exploring the idea of an online Horizon spin-off for years already and has built prototypes.

Now, as discovered by Kurakasis on Twitter, an NCSoft employee recently posted on LinkedIn, mentioning Project H, which has since been renamed to Project Skyline. The logo for the game closely resembles the Horizon logo. NCSoft is actively recruiting for Project Skyline, with job listings confirming that the game will use Unreal Engine 5 and is still in early development, with plans to launch after 2025, so we're still a few years away from seeing this game in action.

Rather than trying to develop the Horizon MMO in-house, Sony has seemingly instead opted to partner up with NCSoft, who have more experience building MMOs than Guerrilla Games. Currently, the official title for the game seems to be ‘Land of Salvation' but as it is still some ways off, this could very well change.

Sony had an ambitious plan to launch as many as twelve ‘live service' online games over the next several years but after issues with projects like The Last of Us Factions, which has since been cancelled, Sony cut this back to six first-party online titles. With that in mind, partnering up with NCSoft may be the right move, as they can leverage the company's strengths while continuing to build their own in-house expertise for multiplayer game development.
