Hitman 3 director joins Crytek to lead Crysis 4 development

Back in January, Crytek surprisingly announced Crysis 4, the first new game in the FPS series in almost a decade. Since then, Crytek has been staffing up for its development push, which will be led by Hitman 3 game director, Mattis Engström.

Crytek has now hired Engström to lead development on Crysis 4, the studio announced this week. Previously, Engström was working at IO Interactive, working on the Hitman reboot trilogy and eventually directing Hitman 3. Prior to that, he worked on various other projects, including Far Cry 3, helping Ubisoft take the reigns on the Far Cry series after acquiring the IP from Crytek.

Crysis 4 was announced in January with a teaser logo, just ahead of GDC. The game is still in early development, with key roles still being hired on for and filled. Crytek has also confirmed that Crysis 4 is the working title, so that could change by the time the game is ready to be released.

With all of that in mind, we would expect Crysis 4 to still be a few years away from release. News of the sequel follows on from Crytek's recent attempt to bring the trilogy back to the forefront, remastering all three games with the latest graphical features that CryEngine has to offer.

KitGuru Says: Crysis 4 is on the way and the game seems to be in good hands. It is still early days though, which is the downside of publicly announcing a project so early on.
