Hideo Kojima might be working with Apple on a secret project

Over the last couple of years, Apple has been working with select game developers to bring games over to the Mac, optimised for the new M-series SoCs powered by Apple's new GPU technology. Previously, we've seen games like Resident Evil Village and No Man's Sky revealed running on M-series Macs at WWDC. This year, Apple may have plans to showcase another big game running on Mac at WWDC this year, as Hideo Kojima has recently spotted at Apple Campus.

Hideo Kojima is a legendary game developer, well known for his time at Konami working on the Metal Gear franchise. Nowadays, Kojima runs his own studio, Kojima Productions, working on titles like Death Stranding. Right now, the studio has a number of secret projects in the works, including one cloud-oriented project with Xbox.

According to Bloomberg's Apple reporter, Mark Gurman, Kojima was recently spotted at Apple Campus, indicating that he's working with the company in some form, or at the very least, in discussions with Apple about a project. This could result in something like a Mac port for Death Stranding, leveraging Apple's new M-series SoC and accompanying graphics APIs.

Alternatively, it could have something to do with Apple's VR plans. The company has been working on its first VR headset for years and rumour has it that Apple will announce its first headset at WWDC next month. Kojima could potentially be part of the plan, but it is worth noting that Kojima himself has previously expressed difficulties getting into VR and has publicly confirmed that he had cancelled a VR project in the past due to suffering from motion sickness.

KitGuru Says: My money here is on a Death Stranding port for Mac, or perhaps an ambitious mobile game. However, considering Kojima's documented struggles getting into VR, Apple may also be lining up to make a statement with its headset reveal with bold claims of eliminating motion sickness.
