Halo creative lead joins Netflix to work on a AAA multiplatform game

343 Industries has gone through a lot of changes in the last six months, with many members of the leadership team leaving Microsoft. Joseph Staten, who was brought back to Microsoft in an effort to steer Halo Infinite back on track, has moved on from his 18 years at Microsoft to help Netflix with its burgeoning gaming arm.

Netflix established Netflix Games last year and has acquired several studios to aid in creating new content. For now, most games offered on Netflix are smaller, less graphically demanding titles, but Staten will be joining Netflix as part of a push to create bigger AAA games.

In a tweet this week, Staten announced that he is now Creative Director at Netflix Games and will be working on a “brand new AAA multiplatform game and original IP”. Interestingly, it is specified that this game will be multiplatform, indicating it will be sold as a locally playable game on consoles and PCs, rather than a game exclusively streamed through Netflix.

While the tweet does note the game will be based on an original IP, we don't know if that means an already existing Netflix Original IP, or a brand new IP altogether.

KitGuru Says: AAA game development is often a long and expensive process so it could be a long time before we see this game announced. If the costs mount up too much, it could be cancelled, as we saw with Google quickly pulling the plug on Stadia's in-development exclusives.
