God of War: Ragnarök PC mod makes game playable without PSN account

God of War: Ragnarok launched on PC this week to mixed reviews, due to continued protests around Sony's PSN account linking requirements, due to the vast number of countries blocked from accessing PSN. Fortunately for those outside of PSN-supported territories, modders have been quick to work out a way to remove PSN requirements.

Over on Nexus Mods, the NoPSSDK mod has appeared for the latest God of War title. This mod does exactly what you would expect, it removes the PlayStation PC SDK runtime requirement from the game, allowing it to be played without linking a PSN account.

However, the mod author also states that this mod does not make any changes to game code and is also not intended to encourage piracy. With that said, the removal of the PSN check will no doubt aid in pirates accessing the game.

Despite being a fantastic game, God of War: Ragnarök currently has a mixed overall score on Steam, in large part due to the number of negative reviews calling out the game's PSN requirement, particularly since the first game, God of War (2018) was sold to gamers in countries where the sequel is not accessible due to PSN blocks.

If you filter Steam User Reviews to those written in the English language, then God of War: Ragnarök's score suddenly jumps up to ‘Mostly Positive'.

KitGuru Says: It seems to me that Sony should really make PSN account linking an optional feature, just as it eventually did for Helldivers 2 after much backlash.
