God of War Ragnarök has not been delayed to 2023

There was much speculation around God of War Ragnarök earlier this week, with many fans expecting an update on the sequel to coincide with the previous title's four year anniversary. Sony Santa Monica did address this with a small developer update asking for patience, but to avoid any delay speculation, developers have also confirmed the game is still coming this year.

After Horizon Forbidden West got pushed into 2022, there was speculation that perhaps God of War could slip too. According to God of War Ragnarök's animation director, Bruno Velazquez, the game is still coming out this year:

During a developer update earlier this week, God of War director, Cory Barlog, asked fans to be patient while the development team continues this final development push: “We are perfectionists. Everyone’s tightening up the graphics on level three, there is so much going on right now that I just wish that we could share it with you, but it’s just not ready to be shown”, Barlog said.

God of War Ragnarök should be Sony's big game for the holiday season this year, and assuming everything is on track, we should expect a State of Play stream focused on the game sometime this Summer.

KitGuru Says: God of War (2018) is one of my favourite games of the last decade and won a ton of GOTY awards, so the sequel is highly anticipated. It is taking a bit longer to be shown than expected, but I'd expect further updates in June as the events season ramps up.
