Following on from leaks yesterday, Ubisoft has officially announced Ghost Recon Frontline, taking the series into free to play territory for the first time. Like The Division Heartland, Ghost Recon Frontline will be a free to play game focused on PvP, rather than PvE content. 

Ghost Recon Frontline will include multiple modes, including Control, a 9v9 mode based on holding points on the map, and Expedition, a large-scale 102-player mode where three-player squads tackle objectives and try to extract before being taken down.

Additional modes and content will release seasonally, so expect Ubisoft to really push season passes. We will also likely see microtransactions and a cosmetics store in-game.

Ghost Recon Frontline is a departure from recent games in the series, which were large, open-world experiences with a focus on co-op PvE. The game will release on PC, last-gen and current-gen consoles as well as cloud services like Stadia and Luna. The game is still in ‘early' development, but rumours point to a 2023 launch window.

KitGuru Says: Ubisoft is announcing its free to play games very early in hopes of gauging feedback and holding extensive player tests. Ghost Recon Frontline already has its first major test scheduled for the 14th of October, inviting players in Europe to play the Expedition mode.
