Gears of War Ultimate doesn’t have a PC release date

Microsoft is preparing to launch a remastered version of the first Gears of War game at the end of next month, putting the series back on the map ahead of Gears of War 4, which is due to launch some time towards the end of 2016. This game will also be the first in a while to make an appearance on the PC, although it won't be arriving at the same time as Xbox.

Gears of War: Ultimate Edition was initially announced for the Xbox One at E3 and then later re-announced for PC. While the Xbox One version will be launching on the 25th of August, the PC version currently has no release date, something that Phil Spencer recently reiterated on Twitter.

Gears

Responding to a fan asking if Gears of War Ultimate Edition would launch on the PC and Xbox One at the same time, Spencer said: “Gears on Win10 is later than Xbox One”. Unfortunately, we still don't know how much later the PC version of the game will actually be.

Gears of War: Ultimate Edition is a remaster of Epic Games' 2006 shooter, featuring the five missions that were exclusive to the PC version of the original game. It is worth pointing out that Gamescom is just a few weeks away, so we may hear more then.

KitGuru Says: With Gears of War: Ultimate Edition heading to the PC, it is possible that we will also see Gears of War 4 appear on the platform. Though, there is no word on Gears 2, 3 or Judgement, which were all Xbox 360 exclusive.

  1. IF there are no exclusives, there is no reason to own a console. What can a console do more effectively than a PC? Local multiplayer? Sure, but that is the most easy thing to fix and the capability is already built in to PCS. Plug and play? How is running a digital game off of steam any different than running a digital game off of the PS4 of Xbox interface? Bad Ports? Do you really think it only one platform existed that bad ports would ever be an issue again?

With PC, you can put 400 dollars into a system or $5000 and DICTATE the experience you have, it is as affordable as you want it to be. Cost certainly isn’t that issue one bit anymore.

Why do developers even need these consoles?, Sony and microsoft could release their same games on PC only, and the market would choose which games it likes and which it doesn’t.
