Gears of War E-Day campaign trailer revealed at Gamescom

Gears of War: E‑Day returned to the stage at Gamescom Opening Night Live with a new trailer ahead of its October release. The game serves as a prequel to the original trilogy, charting the events of Emergence Day as the Locust first rise to the surface and begin their invasion of Sera.

The gameplay expands on the series’ cover‑based combat with redesigned movement mechanics, including sprint sliding, jumping, climbing and enhanced traversal options that introduce greater mobility and verticality. Classic weapons like the Lancer and Longshot return, joined by new additions such as the Gutpuncher grenade launcher and Incinerator shotgun. The campaign supports four‑player co‑op and two‑player split‑screen co‑op on console, while multiplayer includes 4v4 competitive modes and a new twelve‑player Horde Siege mode.

Built using Unreal Engine 5, E‑Day also features expanded destruction systems, dynamic environmental damage and enhanced gore effects. The story focuses on Marcus and Dom as they attempt to adjust to civilian life following the Pendulum Wars, only to be thrust back into combat when the Locust Horde erupts from underground. The campaign follows Bravo Squad through the fall of Kalona, introducing new characters and revisiting the earliest days of the Locust War.
