Gearbox undergoes layoffs after split from Embracer Group

Just last week, it was announced that Embracer Group was finalising a sale of Gearbox Entertainment to Take-Two Interactive in a deal worth around $460 million. While this deal is likely in the best interest of all companies involved, it has not come without its downsides, with Gearbox confirming a round of layoffs.

Gearbox will be cutting a number of roles ‘not tied' to the development of Gearbox games, like the next Borderlands title.

In a statement sent to Eurogamer, Gearbox confirms the layoffs, but doesn't explain much beyond that. Some confirmed roles impacted include PR and community roles. This is in no doubt due to more involvement from 2K Games in future marketing activities.

Gearbox is currently working on the next Borderlands game, and is publishing several other upcoming projects, like Homeworld 3.
