Gearbox slammed for Risk of Rain 2 changes in latest update

Risk of Rain has been a hit on Steam with its first two games, however, fans weren't pleased to learn that the IP was acquired by Gearbox back in 2022. This has all come to a head this week with the release of a new expansion for Risk of Rain 2, which has introduced a ton of new issues and performance bugs.

Risk of Rain fans have turned on Gearbox this week, as the studio's first piece of new content since taking over the game, has introduced a bunch of bugs to the PC version of the game. Specifically, these are issues that appeared on the console versions of the game, which have now been transferred to the PC version of the game and players are not happy.

At this point in time, the new Risk of Rain 2 expansion, Seekers of the Storm, has a negative score on Steam, with many players pointing out issues. Gearbox has been quick to respond, however, acknowledging that the PC version of the game “is in a really bad place” after the expansion.

During development of the expansion, Gearbox also made the baffling decision to tie in-game physics to frame rate, something that rarely ever works well, particularly on PC where higher frame rates are more common, and more often than not, people are playing with an unlocked frame rate.

There is no timeline for fixes to restore the game to its former glory, but hopefully Gearbox will have an update on that soon.
