From Software takes Dark Souls 3 PC multiplayer offline once again

It has been just four weeks since From Software brought Dark Souls 3 multiplayer back online for PC users, after spending months fixing a major security bug. Unfortunately, the game has run into a new problem, and as a result, multiplayer is now offline once again.

This week, the Dark Souls Twitter account confirmed that Dark Souls 3 multiplayer services will be going offline once again for an undetermined amount of time. From Software says this is due to a “confirmed issue”, but specific details have yet to be shared.

As of the 21st of September, From Software has been investigating the source of the problem and plans to bring Dark Souls 3 back online again as soon as possible. Unfortunately, this is likely going to slow down progress on bringing Dark Souls 1 and Dark Souls 2 back online, as those games have not yet been updated following the security issue discovered in early 2022.

Hopefully whatever this new problem is, it isn't as serious as the previous bug. Prior to the recent update, a bug in all three Souls titles meant that an attacker could remotely execute code on another player's PC. Remote Code Execution bugs are particularly dangerous, as it means a hacker can gain access and infect your PC without physical access.
