Firaxis has begun work on Civilization 7

The Civilization series is one of the most popular in the strategy genre, but it has been a while since the last entry. Civilization 6 launched six years ago at this point, but Firaxis is getting back into the swing of it with the announcement of Civilization 7.

Today, Firaxis announced a number of changes taking place at the studio, with Heather Hazen taking over as head of the studio. Alongside this announcement, Firaxis also announced that it has begun development on “the next iteration of the legendary Civilization franchise”.

While not officially titled yet, we can assume this will be Civilization 7 and not a reboot or spin-off. Alongside work on the next Civ game, Firaxis will also continue to support Marvel's Midnight Suns, which hasn't sold as well as 2K Games had hoped, but through additional patches and DLC drops, the publisher hopes that the game will have a long tail.

Unfortunately, there is no word on what is next for the XCOM series, which hasn't had a new entry since XCOM 2 back in 2016.

KitGuru Says: It has been a while since we've seen any Civ-related announcements, so it is nice to hear that the series will continue. Hopefully it won't be too long before we see this new game in action.
