Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 3 enters full production

It looks like the third and final part of the Final Fantasy 7 Remake trilogy will be with us in the not too distant future. The release of Part 2, also known as Final Fantasy 7: Rebirth, launched exclusively on PS5 earlier this year and is destined for a PC release soon. At the same time, production on the third game in the trilogy is ramping up to full force.

Square Enix director, Naoki Hamaguchi, and Producer, Yoshinori Kitase, attended G-Con in South Korea recently. 4Gamer caught two interesting quotes. For starters, we have confirmation that the story for Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 3 has already been written and the development team is now fully working on the new game.

Hamaguchi didn't reveal much about the next part in the trilogy, but he did share that the game will feature the Airship, with the goal of letting players explore the map from “a higher perspective”. The goal is to allow airships to fly freely across the map without limitations.  Hamaguchi says he doesn't want to “cheat” on this, so it seems to be a major area of focus.

Final Fantasy 7 Remake launched in 2020 for PS4 and later also released on PS5. The game finally came to PC in late 2021. The sequel, Final Fantasy 7: Rebirth, launched earlier this year to vast critical acclaim, but it struggled on the sales side due to the game only being available on PS5. The game is expected to be available on PC in 2025. The third game does not yet have a release date, but development will likely take three to four years, based on timings for the previous titles, so we're looking at a 2027 launch at the earliest.

KitGuru Says: It would be nice if Square Enix could complete this trilogy before next-gen consoles hit the market, which is likely to happen in late 2028. It would also be nice if we could finally do away with the PlayStation exclusivity that shackled the first two games.
