Final Fantasy 7: Ever Crisis launches on September 7th

Back in 2021, Square Enix announced not one but two mobile Final Fantasy 7 spin-off games. The first was a Battle Royale game that swiftly shut down after about a year of service. The second, Final Fantasy VII: Ever Crisis, appears to have a bit more hype behind it, with over a million fans pre-registering for the game on Google Play and the iOS App Store.

With interest in this new spin-off growing, Square Enix has now announced a launch date. The game will be downloadable on iOS and Android devices starting on the 7th of September 2023.

Final Fantasy VII: Ever Crisis uses chibi-style characters from Final Fantasy VII. Developed by a third-party partner, Applibot, the game is essentially a retelling of the original Final Fantasy 7, putting players through key moments of the story in an episodic format, with episodes set to roll out on a monthly basis. The combat system has also been adjusted for better gameplay on mobile.

The game will be free to play, but will incorporate a Gacha system. While many core gamers dislike Gacha systems, they've become hugely popular in mobile games and they do indeed make tons of money, although typically, the most popular games that utilise this system sell different characters or variants of popular characters. In the case of Ever Crisis, the Gacha system will be used to sell rate items for the player to use in their journey.

KitGuru Says: Will any of you be giving this a download when it drops? While I think the idea of an episodic retelling of a classic JRPG could be a good one, I'm very sceptical of this gacha system being put in place.
