While Counter-Strike has never been more popular than in its current form, there are still a lot of fans who long for the old days of Counter-Strike 1.6. Luckily for those fans, classic Counter-Strike is back on the menu this year thanks to the impending release of CS Legacy.
CS: Legacy is a fan-made remake of Counter-Strike 1.6. The game has been rebuilt from the ground up utilising Valve's Source SDK tools. The original maps have been remade, with care taken to keep the classic look and feel of these maps, but with higher quality assets, unlike the modern CS:GO/CS2 versions of maps like Nuke, which also implement a number of design changes.
The trailer for CS: Legacy showcases everything fans of Counter-Strike 1.6 could ask for. The classic map designs are back with higher quality assets, the classic guns and their sound effects have all been remade and skilled players will be able to show off with bunny hops.
CS: Legacy will be available on PC later this year as a standalone game. The current plan is to launch via the Steam Early Access program. Valve has not yet commented on the game, but Valve has allowed remake projects like this in the past, as we saw with Black Mesa, a remake of Half-Life 2.
