Fallout 4 is getting upgrades across PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X/S

Bethesda has been working on a next-gen update for Fallout 4 on consoles for over a year now. It was originally supposed to drop in late 2023, but it had to be pushed to 2024. Things have been quiet since then but today, Bethesda has finally given us an update, with the patch set to roll out later this month. Today's announcement doesn't just interest console gamers though, as a big new update for the PC version is also on the way.

The next-gen patch for Fallout 4 will allow the game to take better advantage of Xbox Series X/S and PS5 hardware. While Xbox players can already get 60FPS in the console version thanks to Microsoft's FPS Boost feature, the game is currently limited to 30FPS on PlayStation. That will change with this update. Now, Fallout 4 will run at 60FPS natively (without FPSBoost) on Xbox Series X/S and it will also offer the same frame rate on PS5. The game will also run at higher resolution, and players will also benefit from a new round of bug fixes.

The next-gen upgrade for Fallout 4 is dropping on the 25th of April.

Bethesda is also releasing a free Fallout 4 update for PC players, including new quest updates and fixes, ultra-wide resolution support and fixes to the Creation Kit for modders. Crucially, Japanese and Chinese language players will finally be able to reliably log into Bethesda.net again, restoring access to ‘officially approved' mods.

Speaking of mods, the Creation Club is also getting some free new items for players to download, including new Power Armour sets, weapons and even Halloween decorations.

Fallout 4 is also heading to the Epic Games Store, and will soon be Steam Deck verified, so it will run well on Valve's handheld gaming system.
