Fall Guys studio Mediatonic hit by Epic Games lay-offs

Epic Games announced this week that it will be letting go of over 800 employees, cutting jobs across its businesses. One studio that seems to have been hit hard by the lay-offs is Mediatonic, the studio behind Fall Guys, which joined Epic Games back in 2021.

Epic Games acquired Mediatonic in early 2021, in large part due to the studio's popular game Fall Guys. Mediatonic will remain open for the foreseeable future and there are no plans to shut Fall Guys down. However, the studio is being hit hard by job cuts thanks to their new corporate overlords.

As reported by Eurogamer, Mediatonic appears to have been hit the hardest by the lay-offs, with dozens of employees now looking for new job opportunities on social media. The creator of the studio's IP, Murder by Numbers, Ed Fear, has also been impacted by the lay-offs and he made his feelings about the situation pretty clear online.

Epic Games is cutting around 16 percent of its workforce after Epic bosses self-admittedly spent more money than the company was making for a large stretch of time. All of the money spent getting the Epic Games Store off the ground, on top of on-going legal battles with Apple and Google, appear to have now taken their toll, even with Fortnite continuing to make a fortune each year.

KitGuru Says: This situation is still developing, so we don't know how many employees Mediatonic is about to lose or what this means for the studio's future plans. However, the situation does not appear to be very good.
