Fable Legends won’t be launching until next year

Lionhead Studios and Microsoft have been teasing us with Fable Legends since 2013 and while it was initially due to launch this year, things have slipped a little bit. Fable Legends will be one of the first games to support cross-play between Xbox One and PC, though the title will be exclusive to the Windows 10 store when it eventually hits next year.

Lionhead launched the game in closed beta months ago but with the clock ticking down on 2015, it was finally time to admit that the game won't be coming out just yet. In a post on the game's website, the studio wrote:  “Fable Legends is coming together well and it's a lot of fun. But we think that we can make it even better. So we've decided to extend our closed beta to continue to listen to feedback from our players and add features and polish that will make a real difference. This means Fable Legends won't release into open beta this holiday as previously announced.”

“To be honest, we didn't anticipate just how big Fable Legends is becoming. It's simply the most ambitious game we've ever created at Lionhead. We've built a unique and innovative multiplayer experience combining RPG and RTS gameplay which allows you to play, and use your gear seamlessly, across Xbox One and Windows 10. On top of this, we've built a beautiful new world full of grand stories and adventures. And it’s taking more time than we thought”.

Over the course of the closed beta, Lionhead has added in new quests, creatures, playable characters and features but there still seems to be more to come. The open beta will now launch in ‘Spring 2016' instead, so you could be waiting for a while. However, there will be an additional 100,000 invites sent out next year for the closed beta.

KitGuru Says: Fable Legends is going to be a free to play game either way, so when it does eventually come out, you'll be able to jump straight in. We haven't seen much of the game publicly yet but it seems that Lionhead is expanding on its original plans significantly. Have any of you tried Fable Legends at all?
